This is our 20 day electrical course covering domestic electrical installer course (DEI), Safe Isolation and the 18th Edition.

The course runs over 4 consecutive weeks (Monday to Friday 9am to 4pm) and is the ideal starting point if you want to become a domestic electrical installer understand the current 18th Edition wiring regulations and are working in a related trade or would like to understand more about the electrics in your own home. The course is a mixture of practical and theory and you will leave us with a comprehensive understanding of domestic electrical installations and the 18th Edition wiring regulations. We have some large electrical training bays here at YTA so we can really get stuck in and understand how a domestic electrical installation works!
The 18th Edition is regulated RQF qualification in the requirements of electrical installations has been designed to allow learners to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the 18th Edition of the Wiring Regulations. This qualification (or similar) maybe required for operatives wishing to join some Electrical Registration Bodies, Competent Person Schemes or the Microgeneration Scheme.
The skills and qualifications gained on this course will enable you to carry out domestic electrical work as an electrician from a as little as replacing a socket or light fitting, adding a socket or light fitting even up to a full house rewire but any alterations to circuits would need to be inspected and tested by an electrician who is a member of the competent persons scheme. To be a member of the competent persons scheme you must hold your DEI, Safe Isolation and the 18th Edition qualifications plus have electrical experience (2 years).

The domestic electrical installer certificate is an industry recognised qualification that will expire after 5 years.
Pre-requisites for DEI:
DEI (Domestic Electrical Installer Certificate) is suitable for operatives who carry out electrical work as a secondary task i.e. heating installers, bathroom and kitchen fitter’s, plumbers, builders and domestic appliance fitters / installers.
If your Logic Certification Defined or Full Scope Part P certificate has, or is about to expire, it is recommended that as part of your Continuous Professional Development (CPD) you attend this course. The DEI course covers all areas that have been updated or changed since the introduction of the BS7671:2018 the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
Pre-requisites for 18th Edition: The 3 days 18th Edition Course is held on the 4th week of this course.
There are no formal pre-requisites to this qualification but it is recommended that candidates should have suitable knowledge of electrical theory and ideally be working within the electrical or a related industry.
18th Edition is 3 days followed by the 60 question on-line assessment.
The objective of this 18th Edition RQF qualification is for learners to demonstrate they know and understand:
- the scope, object and fundamental principles of BS7671
- the definitions used within BS7671,
- how to assess the general characteristics of electrical installations
- the requirements of protection for safety of electrical installations
- the requirements for selection and erection of equipment for electrical installations
- the requirements of inspection and testing of electrical installations
- the requirements of special installations and locations as identified in BS7671
- the information contained within the appendices of BS7671.

- Maintaining domestic electrical installations

Background:
The Domestic Electrical Installer covers electrical work as outlined in the Building Regulation and complies with BS7671:2018.
This course is designed for persons working within the electrical or related industries it is not designed to take a non-qualified / non-related person and make them into electricians.
NB: From the 6th April 2013 the qualification entry requirements for companies or businesses wishing to join a Part P Competent Person Scheme (CPS) changed. The relevant change is for the designated qualifying supervisor (QS). In a larger organisation, the QS will be responsible for the competence and work of all installers carrying out electrical installations. Sole traders are both the QS and installer. The QS must hold as minimum the Level 3 Certificate in Installing, Testing and Ensuring Compliance of Electrical Installation Work in Dwellings. For larger businesses, the DEI qualification can still be used for operatives who are under the direction of the qualifying supervisor. Sole traders must comply with the qualification entry requirement detailed above. The awarding body is LOGIC Certification
Assessment method:
Assessment is carried out using a variety of methods; including multiple choice, short written response and scenario questions and observed practical tasks.
